Opening the season is the return of the beloved production High Steel, written by Mary Walsh and the late Rick Boland with music by the late Ron Hynes. Directed by Mary Walsh, this drama explores the journey of ironworkers from Newfoundland to the skyscrapers of New York City. Featuring stellar performances by: Christa Borden, Colin Furlong, Una Hill-McMullin, Stephen Oates, Andrew James O’Brien, Jodee Richardson, and Erika Squires, the production pays homage to Newfoundland’s distinct place in history.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Our second mainstage show is A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Danielle Irvine. This a story that explores love, friendship, and the power of imagination. Young lovers on the run and actors rehearsing a play all take refuge in the forest where magical creatures abound. Mistaken identity, chase scenes, and a bit with a donkey – this joyful show celebrates the magic in us all. Immersive, magical, ridiculous fun for all ages! Starring Andy Jones, Marthe Bernard, Selina Asgar, Stephen Oates, Christa Borden, Andrew Halliday, Tzu-Hao Hsu, Olive Jones, Franny McKeown, Andrew James O’Brien, Blake Pyne, Erika Squires, and Marquita Walsh.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised] [Again]

The third of our mainstage presentations is the world-wide phenomenon, the high energy romp, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, (Abridged) [revised][again] by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield. Classical work meets clownish antics in a show for lovers and haters of Shakespeare alike. Internationally renowned director, Richard Rose, directs this piece that features Selina Asgar, Blake Pyne, and Andrew Halliday.

Tempting Providence

Our fourth mainstage this year is Tempting Providence by Robert Chafe, Directed by Jillian Keiley (co-production with Artistic Fraud of NL). In 1921 Myra Grimsley signed a two-year contract and boarded a steamship from London, England to St. John’s, Newfoundland. Her charge: to serve as the sole health-care provider for three hundred miles of the sparsely settled coast of Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula. By the time her contract ran out two years later, Myra was married to local Angus Bennett, and had given birth to their first child, Grace. Based on the true story of Nurse Myra Bennett, Tempting Providence is a play about duty and sadness, love and change. Four strong characters drive this no-frills drama about a young British nurse who only signed on for two years, and the local man for whom she stayed for seventy. Starring Colin Furlong, Una Hill-McMullin, Marquita Walsh, and Stephen Oates.

The Queen of Paradise’s Garden by Andy Jones and Mary-Lynn Bernard. A traditional Newfoundland tale adapted by Andy Jones that follows Jack, our favourite scallywag, who, worried about his aging parents, goes on an adventure with his brothers to the land of the Queen of Paradise to find a magic fruit to make the old young again. This delightful tale is brought to life by two of our province’s most treasured performers, Andy Jones and Mary-Lynn Bernard.
